RIVERSDALE NOTES
GARDEN PARTY.
(From Our Correspondent.)
An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the Manse on Thursday, when the Rev. and Mrs Newlands entertained P.W. M.U. members and friends at a garden party. After the visitors had enjoyed a stroll round the beautiful garden, competitions were indulged in and vocal solos were rendered by Misses F. Macpherson and S. Stevenson. An interesting talk was given by Mr Newlands on his recent camping tour. Afternoon tea was dispensed after which Mrs A. McKay thanked Mr and Mrs Newlands for the opportunity of spending a pleasant afternoon amidst pleasant surroundings. Hie new stationmaster, Mr Phillips, has arrived and assumed duty. Mr and Mrs C. Lavery are on annual leave, Mr Brown filling Mr Lavery’s position on the railway staff. Mr and Mrs N. N. Griffin, Clinton, were week-end visitors to the district and were the guests of Mr and Mrs M. Windle.
Mr J. L. Macpherson is spending his annual leave with his parents. Mr and Mrs J. C. Macpherson.
Exceptionally warm, dry weather is being experienced and a good soaking rain would be welcome. The threshing of grass-seed is almost completed and with the advanced prices makes a brighter outlook for the farmers.
