WOMAN’S DEATH
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. INQUEST HELD. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, February 18. “On the evidence before me I cannot exonerate the driver from blame,” said Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., Coroner, at the inquest into the death of Mrs Alice Brierly, aged 62, who was struck by a car driven by R. E. Hinde, and who died in the Auckland Hospital as the result of severe head injuries received in the accident. In returning a verdict that Mrs Brierly’s death occurred as the result of head injuries received through being struck by a car driven by Hinde on December 10, the Coroner said: Here is a case of a woman crossing a road when visibility was stated by the driver himself to be good. She was seen when the car was 40 feet away, yet she was struck by the car. I am not able to exonerate the driver from blame on the evidence before me and I think further inquiries should be made.
