QUEEN’S PARK GOLF LINKS.
To the Editor.
Sir, —Your leader in last Monday’s issue with reference to the 1000 per cent, increased rent of the golf links js to be I will even go further in justification of your statement and say that the councillors were influenced purely by misrepresentation. The statement was made and reiterated until it became a parrot cry that it was costing the city £72 per year for keeping the flanks of the golf links in order. Mr Mansfield was asked to give a detailed statement showing how he arrived at his figures; he has ignored the request simply because it would make him look foolish to state that charges were being made for looking after the garden plots etc. such as the one near the golf house. Can he name any of his supposed flanks that is of any material benefit or necessary to the golfers? The Golf Committee is a live one and has used every endeavour to keep the links in order and to keep the fees as low as possible so that the young men, most of whom have only a medium salary, could take up the game. The Golf Club has spent over 12 years getting the links in first class order and now just when they are getting out of debt this injustice is sprung upon them. The committee had in view the purchase of £l4O worth of new machinery but will now have to reconsider the purchase. The last has not yet been heard with regard to the raised rent, and Mr Mansfield will have another chance to justify his statements and his position. I am etc.— FAIR DEAL.
