FAIRFAX NOTES
CYCLE RACES.
The fortnightly cycle races under the auspices of the Fairfax Athletic Club were held on Saturday evening. Only <vne point separates the winner of the mile and a-half race, Walter McWhirter and D. Brown for the Angelo Cup for the most points gained during the season, the former leading. A final meeting will be held on March 2. which will conclude a most successful season.
Following are the results: One mile and a-half cycle race: Walter McWhirter (90yds) 1, A. Bone (scr) 2, W. McWhirter (110yds) 3. Also competed: D. Brown (20yds), J. Herbison (140yds) and J. Muir (160yds). The winner gained the verdict by a comfortable marcin, but inches separated the other riders.
Novice Cycle Race, one and a-half miles: Angus McWhirter (40yds) 1. —. Gibbon (150yds) 2, J. Watson (30 yds) 3. Also competed; J. Murdoch (scr), D. Nicholson (30yds) and J. Wood (90yds). 100 yards race: R. McNaughton (scr) 1, G. Bell (4yds) 2, J. Herbison (4yds) 3. Five entries. Dance.
The Cricket Club’s dance in the evening was again well attended. The local orchestra again supplied the music, extras being played by Miss Cook and Mr J. V. O’Brien. Mr Nicholson officiated as M.C.
As a fitting conclusion to the season’s activities the next dance will be conducted by the Athletic Club.
