The Shaw, Savill liner Tainui, from Port Chalmers, berthed at Bluff yesterday morning and later began her Southland loading for the Home market. Completion may be readied this afternoon. The Tainui’s next port will be Lyttelton. The Tamatea sailed at 1.30 p.m. yesterday for Stewart Island. She returns this morning and sails again about 4.15 p.m. for the Island and is due to return to Bluff tomorrow to .connect with the evening train for Invercargill. The Wairuna cleared Los Angeles on February 2 with cargo from Pacific Coast ports for Apia, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, ' and Sydney. She is due at Apia oii February 21, and at Auckland about February 28. Thirty steamers, excluding United States vessels, aggregating 175,312 tons gross, were sold to shipbreakers in November last year, which compares with thirty-two vessels, of 110,527 tons, in November, 1933, and nineteen vessels of 88,018 tons, in November 1932. In the nine months ended September 30, 1934, the cargo traffic passing through the Suez Canal amounted to 20,903,000, showing an increase of 1,264.000 tons, or 6.4 per cent,, as compared with the corresponding period of last year. The Union Company advises that the Royal Mall liner Niagara, which is due at Auckland on February 18 from Vancouver, is now scheduled to sail for Sydney at 10 o’clock the following morning. The A. and A. Line’s chartered motor ship Australind is scheduled to leave New York on April 8 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia. THE PORT HUNTER. The C. and D. Line vessel Port Hunter, en route from Liverpool via Kingston and the Panama Canal, arrived at Auckland on Thursday afternoon. She is to leave there again to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton. Dunedin, and New Plymouth to complete discharge. The Port Hunter, in addition to general cargo from Glasgow and Liverpool, has 6000 cases of Jamaican oranges. She is due at Wellington next Monday morning. She will berth at Bluff from Lyttelton about March 16 for Homeward loading. WAIKOUAITI ARRIVING TO-DAY. The Waikouaiti left Sydney at 4 p.m. on Monday for Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru, and Lyttelton. The vessel’s cargo includes transshipments -ex the Taiping, Moldavia, and Comorin. The Waikouaiti will berth at Bluff this morning, sailing again later for Dunedin. WAIMARINO TO RETURN. The Waimarino is expected to leave Auckland next Thursday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She will arrive on February 28 to load coastal cargo, sailing again the same day for Dunedin, advise the local agents of the Union Steam Ship Company. ANGLO-CANADIAN DELAYED. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co., local agents ‘or Canadian National Steamships, advise that the Anglo-Canadian will not now berth at Bluff from Lyttelton until next Wednesday. It is expected that local cargo operations will be completed by the evening, and the Anglo-Canadian will sail later for Port Chalmers. THE CANADIAN SCOTTISH. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co., also advise that the Canadian Scottish will be about two days later than previously announced and will not now berth at Bluff from Dunedin until Monday, February 25. She will sail again the same day for New York, Boston and Halifax. The Canadian Scottish arrived at Auckland from Halifax on Wednesday of this week. CANADIAN VICTOR TO REPLACE CHALLENGER. Advice has been received by Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co., that the Canadian Victor will now replace the Canadian Challenger on her present itinerary. The Canadian Victor sailed from Halifax on February 5 for Auckland, whence she is proceeding via way ports for Bluff. She is due here about February 27, sailing again the same day or the following day according to circumstances for New York. LONDON’S SHIPPING. During the week ended December 28, 773 vessels representing 730.895 net register tons, used the Port of London. Three hundred and forty-three vessels (567,032 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports and 430 . vessels (163,863 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included seven meat cargoes —three from Australia, one from South America and three from North America, comprising 221,000 carcasses of lamb and mutton, 38,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits and sundries. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain E. R. Lowe, of the Poolta, and Captain A. H. Howie, of the Karepo, have exchanged ships. Mr N. J. Siepen has joined the Waikouaiti as chief officer, relieving Mr M. R. Tregale for holiday. Mr G. W. Jenkinson has been engaged as engineer on the Gale, relieving Mr E. H. Everett. Mr J. R. Keith, who was assistant purser on tlie Marama on her recent cruise to the Marlborough Sounds, has since joined the Aorangi in a similar capacity. Mr R. M. Sams, ex-purser of the Maheno, has relieved Mr G. R. Ashforth. who is on sick leave, as purser of the Monowai. Mr Sams has been relieved by Mr T. P. Smith, late of the Wahine, whose place has been taken by Mr F. Johnson, of the Waipiata. Mr F. J. Callan has been engaged as first officer of the Tamahine, in place of Mr F. D. Johnson.
WAIPIATA NOT COMING. CARGO TO BE TRANSHIPPED. The Waipiata left Auckland yesterday and will dock at Port Chalmers next Thursday. She will thus be unable to call at Bluff during her present itinerary (advise the local agents of the Union Company). The Bluff portion of her cargo will be transhipped at Wellington to the Orepuki, which sails from Wellington next Tuesday and is due at Bluff next Friday. The Orepuki will be available to load cargo for Nelson and New Plymouth. She will sail again the same day for Dunedin. The coaster Kini will leave Dunedin on Tuesday for Bluff to load cargo for Wellington which would otherwise have been shipped on the Waipiata. The Kini will also be available to take any urgent cargo for Auckland. Otherwise the next opportunity to load cargo for Auckland will be by the Waimarino on February 28. 'lJie Kini is due at Bluff on Wednesday, sailing again the same day for Dunedin. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
