MASTER BAKERS
BREAD FOR RELIEF WORKERS. DISCUSSION BY CONFERENCE. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, February 15. The New Zealand Master Bakers and Pastrycooks’ Association discussed the question of the price of bread to relief workers. After consideration in committee, it was reported that it had been agreed to leaving the fixing ot such prices to individual associations. The conference also discussed remits from Canterbury and Auckland, proposing that the association register as an employers’ union in case it might be desired to initiate proceedings under the I.C. and A. Act. A country' delegate opposed the suggestion because the city and country bakers worked under entirely different conditions. The president (Mr Claude Cowan of Auckland) said the Association wanted power to make a Dominion award if it became necessary. If action were contemplated, local associations would be consulted. The executive would not take steps that would be against the interests of some members of the Association. It was decided that the executive take whatever steps are necessary to bring the association into line in the matter. The conference elected the following officers: President. Mr C. C. Lange (Invercargill); vice-presidents, Messrs J. O. Boniface (Palmerston North),_ K. T Norton (Lyttelton); executive, Messrs C. E. Boon (Christchurch), J. T. Norton, R. I. Norton (Lyttelton), P. Dunn (Ashburton), C. H. Thomas. G. H. Taigel (Christchurch), T. B. Mason (Hornby); representatives on Wheat Research Institute, president ana Messrs C. E. Boon and C. Cowan (Auckland). It was decided to hold next yeai s conference at Wanganui.
