MEDICAL TREATMENT
DELINQUENTS IN BRITAIN.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, February 13. The curing of crime by science has made a step forward. A new institute for the scientific treatment of delinquents is opening an inpatients’ clinic to deal with offenders who are repeatedly before the courts, yet are manifestly likely to benefit from medical attention. An investigation has shown that such treatment may usefully occupy two years if a new habit of mind is created.
The inpatients’ department will enable Magistrates to find a muchneeded substitute for prison. The institute already has a staff of 21 doctors and the work is extending to the provinces.
