RIVERTON ROCKS.
To the Editor.
Sir, —The various letters that have appeared in your columns speak for themselves and show conclusively that the appointments and conveniences are not just what they might be. But, sir, unlike “Lover of the Rocks” I highly commend Mr McCrostie and his colleagues for their efforts, restricted though they have been and it is certain these gentlemen have little to gain personally by endeavouring to provide some sort of accommodation at the Rocks for visitors. Their actions are in striking contrast to the inertia of the Riverton Borough Council and the apathy of the business houses there, the latter of whom have everything to gain by the popularity of the beach and surroundings. That they all appreciate the business derived from the “Rocks” people is indicated by the keenness displayed by butchers, bakers, greengrocers, fruiterers etc., in soliciting custom from occupants of the cribs. Then why .can they not assert themselves to reciprocate with assistance to Mr McCrostie and his committee in their desire to make these bays more congenial to excursionists? Young citizens of Riverton, what Caroline Bay is to Timaru, the Rocks are to your town and it’s up to you to endeavour to move your “City Fathers” from their indifference in the matter.—l am, etc., VISITOR.
