WOOL SALE
BUYERS ARRIVE TO-DAY LIST OF OFFERINGS TOTAL OF 23,000 BALES To-day the wool buyers arrive in Invercargill for the first sale of the season which takes place on Friday. The stores have for some weeks presented a scene of great activity and in the mercantile offices clerks have also been busily employed preparing for the sale. The quality of the offering will be much the same as is usual in Southland. For this sale the bulk of the wool will be from farmers, few backcountry clips having yet come to hand. The wool appears bright, light in condition and on the whole sound. A slight improvement in values has been in evidence since December and the sale in Christchurch yesterday will give encouragement to local growers who, though having to confront offers likely to be only half the price of those obtaining at the first sale last year, will probably deem it wise to dispose of their clips, as was the case in Christchurch.
The final figures relating to the offering were not available last evening but from the totals supplied by the firms it is probable that 23,077 bales will be offered, a quantity 1923 below the allocation. The order of sale and the approximate offering of each firm are as follows: Order. Firms Bales.
