HEAVY FINES

RAID ON CHINESE DEN. TOTAL OF £175. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 21. A house was raided in Haining street last night, resulting in five Chinese being fined a total of £175 to-day. The keeper of the den was fined £lOO of this amount. It was stated by the police that one of those arrested said that if the police had been half an hour sooner or half an hour later they would have had to arrest 30, but a lot had gone out to supper.
