ENTERING POLITICS

MR WINSTON CHURCHILL’S SON.

CONTESTING BY-ELECTION.

(United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.16 p.m.) London, January 20. Mr Winston Churchill’s son, Randolph, aged 23, is contesting the byelection at Wavertree which is vacant owing to the elevation of Mr R. Hall Caine to the peerage. Already there are three candidates, James Platt (National Conservative), J. J. Cleary (Labour) and Artro Morris (Liberal). Mr Churchill is fighting as an Independent Conservative. Mr Platt’s pronouncements do not suggest that he is prepared to defend the vital requirements of the Lancashire trade and anti-Indian tariffs. Mr Churchchill also criticizes the Indian reforms. It is recalled that Mr Winston Churchill won his first seat at Oldham, another Lancashire constituency, at the age of 25. He says that Randolph consulted him but acted on his own responsibility.
