GERMAN TRADE

DICTATORIAL CONTROL TEST WILL COME NEXT YEAR SUBSTITUTES FOR RAW MATERIALS (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.50 p.m.) London, December 27. The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that 1935 will provide a stern test for Dr Schacht’s dictatorial control of trade and industry. The home trade outlook is comparatively bright, and the recent improvement in the retail trade will probably continue. Germany’s vital New Year problem is how to obtain raw materials. Much depends on whether experiments with home substitutes for products will succeed. If Germany can devise a means of financing additional imported raw materials the trade outlook is not unpromising; if she fails there will be great hardships in the winter of 1935.
