MINISTERIAL. The Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, and the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. R. Masters, who have been representing New Zealand in the trade negotiations with the Australian Government are due to arrive back in Wellington on December 18, states a Wellington Press Association message. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G, W. Forbes, accompanied by Mrs Forbes and Mr R. Forbes, Dr. Marsden and Mr C. A. Jeffery, secretary, arrived in Dunedin last night from Invercargill after visiting the King Solomon and Wetherstones mining areas. They will remain in Dunedin to-day fulfilling various official engagements and will leave for Wellington on Friday morning.—Press Association message. Mr James Hargest, M.P., reached Invercargill by plane from Christchurch yesterday afternoon. A Wellington telegram states that Mr E. P. Yaldwyn was on Tuesday reelected chairman of the Associated Banks of New Zealand. Sir William and Lady Perry, who have been the guests of the Hon. Adam and Mrs Hamilton, leave by thia morning’s express on their return to Masterton. Mr L. J. Wild, president of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, who has been staying with his mother in Invercargill during his visit to the show, leaves to-day for the north. Mr T. E. Corkill, of Wellington, father of Mr F. M. Corkill, Invercargill, died yesterday afternoon. He recently retired from the position of assistant general manager of the Bank of New Zealand and was associated for more than 40 years with Sir Henry Buckleton who died last week. On Tuesday evening a number of the country friends of Mr A. W. Rodger entertained him at the Federal Lounge for the purpose of assuring him of their appreciation of his efforts in connection with the Monowai hydroelectricity project and of their confidence in the scheme as a benefit to the farming community in Southland. Mr G. F. C. Tanner, manager of the Dunedin branch of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., has been appointed to a similar position at Invercargill. Mr Tanner has been in Dunedin for three years, and before coming to New Zealand in 1931 was for two years manager at Hurstville, Sydney. Mr W. D. Young, at present manager of the Bank at Adelaide, South Australia, succeeds Mr Tanner in Dunedin and is expected to arrive about the end of December. The National Mortgage and Agency Company’s Invercargill office was the scene of a happy function on Tuesday afternoon, the occasion being a farewell tendered by the staff to Mr T. H. Mills, who has been transferred to Christchurch as manager of the Canterbury branch of the National Insurance Company. After a brief eulogy of Mr Mills’ qualities as manager of the National Insurance Company, Mr J. S. Marshall made a presentation to Mr Mills on behalf of the staffs of the National Mortgage and Agency Company and of the National Insurance Company to commemorate Mr Mills’ management during the past eight years of the branch at Invercargill. Similarly appreciative reference was made by other members of the staffs to the happy relations that had existed in Invercargill during Mr Mills’s period of management and best wishes were expressed for his future advancement. In reply Mr Mills expressed his thanks for the assistance extended to him which had no doubt materially aided his advancement towards his recent promotion. A case of cutlery to the guest and a cut-glass rose bowl for Mrs Mills suitably marked the occasion and his health was toasted with musical honours. Mr Mills departs by the express this morning to take up his new duties in Christchurch.
