COMMENTS. John Hunter did an attractive drawing. He has a good sense of proportion, and the picture is not over-loaded with detail. Animal portraits are always difficult but Cousin Maisie Palmer did exceptionally well with her picture of a collie, though it would have been better if there had been more definition of the hindquarters. Cousin Molly Macalister has a “Royal Show” picture and although it has a good sense of action the hindquarters of the horse are too light and she is not so successful with human figures. It is a wellbalanced picture, with good attention to details. Cousin Yvonne Reid’s study of a cow and her calf is excellently done, but it suffers a little in the modelling, particularly the calf. The barbs on the wire are a little too large for realism. There was a splendid response to this competition, and many of the drawings were of a high standard. Cousin Ivan Fortune’s entry was particularly good, ‘though the face and. feet of the man were weak points. Some of you sent in more than one entry, so you received marks for each entry. 319th COMPETITION.
