Southland Women’s Club

Garden Circle. On Wednesday afternoon one of the most successful flower and vegetable shows, organized annually by the members of the Garden Circle, was held in the club rooms. Ablaze with colour and fragrant with the perfume of many flowers, the reception room was a beautiful sight. Bowls- of magnificent lupins adorned tall stands on the stage while on the lower portions of the platform, artistically arranged mixed bowls stood. Roses, sweet peas, poppies, pyrethrums and many other blooms arranged to the best advantage taxed the weight of long tables which extended the full width of the room. The judging was in the capable hands of Miss J. Burt and Mr C. S. Languet. The best blom of the show was a rose “Lady Ursula” grown by Mrs E. J. Mills. The following was the prize list:— Six varieties of roses (one of each) — Mrs E. Abbey Jones 1, Mrs William Handyside 2, Mrs E. J. Mills 3. Three varieties of roses (one of each) —Mrs E. J.
