Dr. Moana Gow has returned to Winton from the north. Dr and Mrs H. R. Gibson, Don street, returned on Wednesday from a few days in Otago Central. Mr and Mrs T. Wray Wilson, Christchurch, and their small son Rodger are guests at the Grand Hotel. Mrs F. C. Rowley, Thames street, returned on Thursday from a holiday spent in Auckland, Rotorua and Hamilton. Friends of Mrs W. T. Hazlett will be glad to learn that she is making satisfactory progress after her recent operation. Mrs W. F. Edmond returned to Dunedin on Wednesday after a short visit to Invercargill to see her sister, Mrs W. T. Hazlett. Mrs F. G. Hall-Jones, "Lennel,” gave a tennis party on Wednesday afternoon in honour of her guest, Miss Cartwright. Mrs T. Menzies Watson, Morven, was the guest of Mrs W. A. Oliver, Holywood Terrace, for a few days during the week. Mrs W. A. Oliver', Holywood Terrace, was hostess at tea on Thursday afternoon in honour of the Misses Hogg, of Wellington. Mr and Mrs P. W. Gresson, Mary street, returned by the express on Thursday evening from a holiday in Timaru and Christchurch. Miss Kiore King, of Havelock North, is at present visiting Christchurch After a few days in that city, Miss King will visit the Southern Lakes. Mr and Mrs H. K. Wilkinson, of Dunedin, spent a few days during the week in the Eglinton Valley and leave to-day on their return to Dunedin. Mrs G. F. Tobin, Lewis street, and her small daughter return to Invercargill by the express this evening from a holiday in Christchurch and Timaru.

Miss Sheila MacDonald, daughter of the British Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald, arrived in Auckland last week on a visit to the Dominion.

Mr and Mrs W. M. L. Sutherland. Lewis street, and their two children left for the north on Wednesday en route to Sydney, where they will reside.

Mrs Basil Unwin and Miss Cara Pinckney, Glenaray, who have been the guests of Miss Peggy Unwin, Church street, Timaru, have returned to the south.

The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Prime Minister, and Mrs Forbes arrive in Invercargill on Monday for the Royal Show. They will be the guests of Sir Robert and Lady Anderson, Victoria Park.

Mrs A. Owen Johnston, Thomson street, was hostess at tea on Wednesday afternoon in honour of Miss Graeme Carswell, River Road, who recently returned from two years in London.

Mrs H. S. Wilson, Centre street, and Miss L. Cooper, Ness street,-were joint hostesses at a gift afternoon on Wednesday in honour of Miss Jopp, Gala street, who is leaving Invercargill to be married.

Guests at the Club Hotel during the week included Mr and Mrs C. Beasley (Wellington), Mr and Mrs R. Donaldson (Dunedin), Mrs S. Marshall (Stewart Island). Mr and Mrs R. Stewart (Invercargill), Miss R. Brotherstone (Qtara). On Tuesday afternoon Mrs James Begg, Dunedin, entertained a large number of friends to meet Mrs F. A. Barclay, of Wanganui; who is at present visiting Dunedin. Mrs Barclay will be well remembered as a former resident of Invercargill for many years.

Yesterday a team of croquet players from Winton visited Invercargill to play against the Invercargill B team. The match was played on the Invercargill lawns and resulted in a win for the home team. Those who travelled from Winton were Mesdames C. Gerrard, W. Cowie, Rielly, Mcllrick, R. M. Gilmour and Shaw.

A wedding of interest to Invercargill people will take place in Dunedin early in the New Year when Dr. Beauchamp Barclay, younger son of Mr and Mrs F. A. Barclay, of Wanganui, and. formerly of Invercargill, marries Miss Marga Begg, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Begg, of Dunedin. Shortly after the wedding the young couple will leave for England and do not expect to return for some years,

Princessess Elizabeth and Margaret found a new—and very exciting—game while they were at Brikhall, the house near Balmoral, which the Duke and Duchess of York occupy. On the lawn two tall posts were erected, with a light stick across them, and every morning the two little Princesses had thrilling high-jump competitions. Princess Margaret, now a sturdy little girl of four, could clear the bar at over two feet.

On Thursday evening the past and present pupils of Miss Jopp, Gala street, paid her a surprise visit. During the evening Miss Trixie Pryde presented Miss Jopp with a bronze firescreen.
