AUSTRALIA’S DEFENCES
£5,600,000 BEING SPENT.
(United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) Canberra, December 5. Details of the proposed expenditure on defence amounting to £5,600,000 to be incurred during the financial year were given by the Minister of Defence, Mr R. A. Parkhill, in the House of Representatives. The expenditure, he said, included contributions to the cost of the new cruiser H.M.A.S. Sydney and a new sloop to be built in Australia, oil fuel tanks at Darwin and Sydney, provision of coastal defences, aircraft, technical equipment and stores of munitions.
