ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE. ‘ TWO DEATH SENTENCES. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Calcutta, December 4. High Court judges heard the appeals of five men and one woman who were sentenced for the attempted assassination of the Governor of Bengal, Sir John Anderson, on the racecourse at Lebong on May 8. The Court confirmed two of the death sentences and the death sentence of a third was commuted to fourteen years’ hard labour, but he was sentenced to life transportation for possessing unlicensed firearms. The life transportation imposed on a woman, Ujjala Majumdar was reduced to fourteen years’ hard labour. The sentences of fourteen years’ hard labour on two others were confirmed. One who was sentenced to fourteen years’ hard labour did not appeal.
