SCOUT NOTES

(By Pathfinder.) Scout Relay Race. On New Year’s Day there will be, like last year, a Scout race at the Tuatapere Sports. Teams of four are to run 800 yards as a relay, each boy running 200 yards. Scout uniform and spikeless shoes are to be worn and only two boys over 15 are allowed in each team. The winning team will receive the cup donated for the race and will hold it for a year. Teams will be entered from the leaders’ camp being held in the Tuatapere district, but it is hoped more Scouts will travel out from Invercargill for the day. Royal Show. In connection with the Royal Show, twenty Scouts, who have been Selected, will be making themselves useful by meeting the incoming trains and directting visitors about the city. The Duke’s Visit. / The Scouts and Cubs Will be present at the public reception to the Duke of Gloucester, so it is hoped that enough bOys will be in town to make a good appearance. Jamboree. Word has been received from Timaru that the Scouts going to the Jamboree from there will not require billets, while two of the Scouters have been arranged for. Like others coming down by train, they will arrive on the 9 p.m. train ori the Saturday and so will be here for the week-end. Wallacetown Troop. The annual meeting of the Wallacetown Scout Committee was held in the Wallacetown Hall on November 28. The annual report and balance-sheet, which showed a creditable balance, were adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were then elected. Leaders’ Camp. The leaders’ camp will commence at Christmas. On Christmas Eve all campers will parade with kits for kit inspection at the Den at Scouter Wilson’s, Grey street, Gladstone. The party will leave by the 9 a.m. train on Christmas Day, arriving at Tuatapere about mid-day. Tents will be erected by an advance party leaving on Christmas Eve. The following are the camp leaders: Chief “Lionheart” District Commissioner Dorman; assistants, “Grey Wolf” Group Scouter Watt, “Oonai” Scouter Wilson; store-keeper, Scouter Kidston. The programme has been arranged and all are assured of a busy and enjoyable time. Leaders are advised to obtain a list of the necessary kit from Scouter Wilson. Under no circumstances will anyone attend camp without full kit.
