FISHERMAN DROWNED

TRAPPED BY CAPSIZE OF LAUNCH. BROTHER’S SWIM TO SAFETY. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, November 22. John Harold Outram, a single man, aged 35 years, lost his life at the Taieri mouth this morning. Outram, who lived with his brother Thomas at Kuri Bush, was part owner of a fishing launch in which he and his brother went fishing, returning about 9.55 a.m. Thomas was at the tiller and John was in the engine-room with the door closed when a large wave struck the boat, capsizing it. Thomas, who was thrown out, managed to free himself of heavy boots and trousers, and swam ashore, a distance of one mile and ahalf. He had to make way against a strong .outward current, and was in the water for over an hour.

His brother John was trapped in the engine room and drowned.

After the news was received, a fisherman went out and found the Outrams’ launch about two miles down the coast, in a waterlogged condition. He recovered the body of the deceased, and towed the launch ashore.
