IMPERIAL AIRWAYS
MORE FREQUENT SERVICES.
ENGLAND-AFRICA ROUTE.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.)
London, November 21.
In pursuance of its policy of increasing the frequency of the services in preference to speeding up the machines, Imperial Airways has announced the duplication of services on the London-Calcutta-Johannesburg route, giving a twice-weekly service in each direction for passengers and mails to India and Africa and also four services weekly between Britain and Egypt. The duplicated service opens from London to Johannesburg on January 1. The plans will not involve additional aircraft, but extra work will be demanded from the machines on the Empire routes which now fly an average of only 2600 miles a week, compared with the London-Paris planes’ 1000 miles a day. Ground staffs will be increased and extra engineers have already been despatched to the key points.
