STEWART ISLAND NOTES
PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Stewart Island Progressive League was held on Friday evening. Mr J. Sloan presided. The question of purchasing a further supply of advertising envelopes was discussed at some length. These have proved popular, the supply being nearly exhausted. It was suggested that if a further supply was obtained it would be advisable to change the printing matter and include a block depicting a typical scene on Stewart Island. The idea was considered a good one, but it was felt that the League’s finances would not allow of the idea being adopted in the meantime. It was finally decided that the matter be held over pending the complete sale of the stock on hand.
A member referred to the presence of dogs on the wharp on steamer days and suggested that the matter be gone into as they created a danger as well as a nuisance. In the discussion which followed it was stated that there was a county by-law prohibiting dogs from being on the wharf during the arrival and departure of the steamer, and it was decided that the County Council be asked to enforce same. Personal.
Mr A. McNab, who has been a resident on the island for the last 17 years, left on Wednesday for Christchurch where he intends to settle.
Miss Jacobson, of Christchurch, returned home on Wednesday after a short visit to the Island. Mr T. Bragg, of Halfmoon Bay, returned on Wednesday after spending a week in town.
