DEPARTURE FOR MELBOURNE. VISIT TO TASMANIA. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) Melbourne, November 13. Standing bareheaded in the stem of H.M.S. Sussex, the Duke of Gloucester waved farewell to Melbourne last night when he left for Tasmania. The Royal Standard flew at the masthead, and this striking emblem was picked out against the night sky by the ship’s searchlight. It was a scene of striking simplicity, sincerity and affection for the King’s son at the end of the most strenuous Victorian tour ever undertaken by a member of the Royal House. Thousands lined the route to the port, and a vast crowd assembled and cheered the outgoing cruiser lustily. Though re-visiting Victoria on the 19th, the Sussex is going direct to Portland and is not visiting Melbourne. PREMIER PLEASED PUBLIC’S WELCOME TO DUKE. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.20 p.m.) Melbourne, November 13. Gratification at the warm, welcome given by the public of Victoria to the Duke of Gloucester was expressed by the Premier, Sir Stanley Argyle. He said that the departure of the Duke standing alone in the stern of the Sussex as she receded into the darkness was a magnificent spectacle, to be treasured in the memory of the thousands who witnessed it. With the departure of the Duke Melbourne settled down to enjoy other events on the Centenary programme, including many international sporting championships, beginning with golf on Thursday.
