A BUSY DAY

DUKE OF GLOUCESTER GREETINGS CONVEYED TO EX-SERVICEMEN “KNIGHT OF THE ROAD” (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10 p.m.) Melbourne, Nov. 9. A programme of many contrasts was carried out by the Duke of Gloucester to-day. Beginning with an address to the cadets at Flinders Naval Depot, the Duke visited the Commercial Travellers’ Club and had conferred upon him the honour of a “knighthood of the road.”

The Duke’s next visit was to the conference of the Empire Service League where he was welcomed by men from all corners of the Empire to whom he conveyed greetings from the Prince of Wales, whose message said that no part of his tour in 1920 conveyed such happy memories as his meetings with ex-service men in Australia and New Zealand. The Duke’s next engagement was at the polo matches at Moonee Valley racecourse. He had lunch with the officials and watched the games for four hours, returning to attend the State Government’s garden party and later a brilliant inaugural dinner given by the new Lord Mayor, Mr Wales.
