James Cagney and Bette Davis head the cast of “Jimmy the Gent,” coming to the Regent to-morrow. The picture is a lively comedy romance based on the story by Laird Doyle and Ray Nazarro, and reveals a strange racket in which phoney heirs are dug up to’ collect large estates left unclaimed. Michael Curtiz directed the picture from the screen play by Bertram Milhauser. „ , »
Ricardo Cortez, who has the villain role in the First National super-produc-tion “Wonder Bar,” coming to the Regent on Saturday with Al Jolson and Kay Francis heading an imposing cast, is, the only actor in the film business who ever has been billed above Greta Garbo. Cortez was her leading man in “The Torrent,” which first introduced the Swedish actress to American audiences. At that time she was merely an interesting newcomer, while Cortez was an established favourite and consequently had precedence. * ♦ * *
In popular literature there is no more appealing figure than “Sapper’s” devil-may-care hero, Bulldog Drummond.
