OBITUARY

MR. F. F. LOWNDES. (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne, September 20. Mr Frank Forbes Lowndes, the patentee of the Lowndes life-saving appliance which was tested in Auckland harbour several years ago, died in London early this month. The deceased endeavoured to exploit the device in Britain with some success. He was formerly a seafaring man, but settled in Gisborne and had a successful carrying business prior to his departure for England to market the patent.
