CHILD LABOUR
BRISTOL’S NEW BY-LAW. The Bristol City Council lately decided to revise the by-laws relating to the employment of children so that in future no child under 14—that is, no child of elementary school age—shall be employed even for part-time in any capacity whatever. The chairman of the education committee, Mr Walter Bryant, said that Bristol would be the first place in Britain to adopt the “over-fourteen standard.” In April there were 577 elementary school children, including three girls, employed in Bristol.
