SOLDIERS’ CHAMPION

HON. W. PERRY CONGRATULATED,

Congratulations on his elevation to the Legislative Council were extended at the New Zealand R.S.A. conference to the Dominion vice-president, Mr W. Perry, by the Governor-General, Lord Blcdisloe.

His Excellency said that Mr Perry’s nomination had given him much pleasure to endorse. He would prove an admirable and eloquent exponent in Parliament of the claims of the returned soldiers. (Applause.) Speaking after his Excellency’s departure Mr Perry said that he had at all times advocated the just claims of returned soldiers fearlessly, frankly, and fairly, and he intended to continue his efforts in that direction. He regarded the distinction that had been conferred upon him as a recognition of the principles of justice and fair play for which the R.S.A. had always stood.

Those present sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” and gave Mr Perry three cheers.
