The annual parishioners’ meeting of St. Andrew’s Church of England, Stewart Island, was held in St. Andrew’s Hall on Monday, June 18. The attendance was quite good. The secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Peters reported that it had been a difficult year financially, but was glad to be able to show in the statement of accounts a small credit balance. The chief item of the year’s expenses had been the erection of the new church hall, which through the generosity of subscribers generally had been built free of debt. Reference was made to the varied social activities of the church, which were being well supported, and which were undoubtedly helping to create a united and happy atmosphere in the church generally. Particular mention was made of Sunday school work and a hearty invitation extended to parents to visit the school when working. Thanks were recorded to the numerous helpers who throughout the year had worked so loyally in their different offices.

The church officers and committee were then elected for the ensuing year: Mr Thomas Bragg (vicar’s warden), Mr Roland Peters (people’s warden and secretary and treasurer); Mr G. M. Turner, Mr W. Dawson sen., Mr J. Bragg, Mr G. Aspinall, Mr J. Marshall, Mr M. Topi. After the business had been dealt with, supper was served and altogether a very pleasant social evening was enjoyed by all. Flag Five Hundred. At the weekly games evening held by the social club of the St. Andrew’s Church of England on Tuesday evening a flag five hundred competition was inaugurated. The innovation proved very popular and keen interest was shown. The winning table was Miss de Beer, Mr W. Armstrong and Mr C. Captain. At the conclusion of the games an extended evening dance was held.
