TAIL SHAFT DAMAGED

MOTOR SHIP TAUPATA.

(Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 9.

During the voyage from Timaru to Lyttelton on Wednesday, the motor ship Taupata suffered damage to the port tail shaft. ' An examination to-day showed that the shaft was completely fractured and that, before the port engine can be used, a new one will have to be fitted. The propellor on the broken shaft was securely lashed to the side of the ship to prevent it’s falling off and the Taupata sailed to-day for Nelson, using the starboard engine only. Repairs will be made at Nelson, the Taupata s home port. The Titoki, which also belongs to the Anchor Company, will convoy the Taupata to Nelson.
