The Romney Marsh Breeders’ Association re-elected Mr A. S. Holms (Southland) president, states a Palmerston North Press Association message.
Mr J. Stevenson was at yesterday’s meeting of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce re-appointed the chamber’s representative on the Southland League. At last night’s meeting of the council of the Southland Acclimatization Society Mr W. Griave was appointed its representative on the Southland League for the ensuing 12 months. At the annual meeting last night of the Waihopai Bowling Club members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr T. D. Kingsland, a former president, who passed away during the year.
A London cable states that it is understood that Mr Malcolm MacDonald, a son of the British Prime Minister, leaves for Australia on September 1 and arrives in New Zealand towards the end of November or early in December.
A Press Association telegram from Palmerston North states that Sir R. Heaton Rhodes was re-elected patron of the Red Poll Breeders’ Association, and Mr J. W. Harding, Waipukurau, was re-elected president. Mr A. Swift, of Taihape, was elected president of the Hereford Breeders’ Association. Lieutenant-Colonel K. MacCormick D. 5.0., has relinquished the position of assistant director of medical services and officer commanding the New Zealand Medical Corp, Northern Command, and is transferred to the reserve of officers. He will be succeeded by Major S. H. Ward, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, as from May 9. The Rev. Father D. Milligan, S.M.. of the Basilica, Wellington, who accompanied Archbishop Redwood to Brisbane, returned from Sydney by the" Maunganui. He stated that his Grace would probably be coming back to New Zealand about September and would go across to Australia again for the Eucharistic Congress at Melbourne in December.
Complimentary reference to the inclusion of Sir Robert Anderson in the Birthday Honours List was made by the chairman (Mr C. B. Tapley) at the monthly meeting of the council of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. Ii would be useless for him to reiterate what a valuable man Sir Robert Anderson was to Southland, he said. His strength of character was reflected in 55 years of business life. The following motion was carried: “The Invercargill Chamber of Commerce extends to Sir Robert Anderson congratulations on the high honour conferred upon him by his Majesty the King which was so deservedly earned in recognition for valuable services rendered. We also congratulate Lady Anderson on the honour she shares with Sir Robert.”
