Military Ball At Clinton

On Thursday, May 31, an outstanding ' social departure was the inauguration of an annual military ball by the Clinton Troop of the Otago Mounted Rifles. The Coronation Hall, which was requisitioned for the occasion, was appropriately decorated with bunting and military accoutrements, which lent a gay and festive atmosphere to the surroundings. The event was under the patronage of Lt.-Col. Holland, Commanding Officer, and Captain Johnston, Adjutant Captain Christie, Captain Reid, Lieutenant Nicolson, Lieutenant Berry and Lieutenant Pollock. Members of the regiment and guests came from as far afield as Dunedin in the north and Invercargill in the south. During the supper adjournment Sergeant Fraser, secretary of the local committee, introduced their Squadron Commander, Captain Christie (A Squadron), the visiting Adjutant Commander, Captain Reid (B Squadron), and Lieut-Colonel Holland, Commanding Officer of the Regiment. Colonel Holland, in the course of his remarks, enumerated the benefits which would accrue to young men joining the regiment, and put in a strong plea to their employers and parents to afford all possible assistance to attain this end.
