FRENCH WHEAT CRISIS

ENORMOUS STOCKS OF FLOUR. MILLS CLOSING DOWN. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Paris, May 25. The closing of the huge flour mills at Corbeil marks a crisis in the French wheat problem. The mills have enormous stocks of flour, and the farmer will thus have difficulty in selling his 1934 crop, which is likely to be a bumper one. Wheat experts say that exporting countries like Argentina and Australia should surrender hope of ever regaining French markets, as France has now left the rank of importing countries, and has become an exporter. The wheat crisis is likely to bring to a head the controversy between devaluating the franc and increasing quotas and tariffs. Some people are beginning to doubt if the industry and the public will be able to stand the high French price level much longer.
