Southland Women’s Club

GARDEN CIRCLE. Next Tuesday afternoon an enthusiastic member of the Garden Circle will give an address on how she manages to grow early vegetables with success every year. The flower garden will also be dealt with and altogether the afternoon should prove a most interesting one. ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT. Members of the club held a most enjoyable social afternoon in the reception room yesterday. Bright fires and pretty flowers made everything look cheery and a very interesting talk on the Conference of the Federation of New Zealand Women’s Clubs was given by Mrs R. J. Gilmour and was greatly appreciated by all present. In the course of her remarks, Mrs Gilmour stressed the importance of the conference, particularly with regard to the fact that at it representatives of clubs from all over the Dominion were enabled to meet and hear each others views and opinions cn matters that were of deep interest to all Women’s Clubs. The object of her talk, she said, was to describe to club members the inner workings of the federation and thus rouse their enthusiasm. The Federation of New Zealand Women’s Clubs hoped to benefit the country as well as affording social interest for the clubs. At the conclusion of her talk, Mrs Gilmour took the opportunity of congratulating the members of the various circles on the excellent work which they had done and of saying how greatly their efforts were appreciated by the executive. Mrs Stanley Brown, on behalf of those present, thanked Mrs Gilmour for her enlightening and interesting address. Among those present were Mesdames D. W. McKay, A. E. W. McDonald, W. S. Todd, W. Macalister, W. W. Hinchey, C. C. Munnings, A. Derbie, Stanley Brown, J. G. Macdonald, R. Crawford, T. D. Pearce, H. Parker, J. Robertson, J. Thomson, H. A. Brumby, T. F. Gilkison, Roy Anderson, T. A.
