ONE GERM BECOMES MANY How Colds Are Spread It may be only one little germ, or microbe, that floats into your system with the air you breathe. But once lodged amongst the numerous tiny cavities of nose, throat or lungs, germs multiply rapidly. The warm, moist conditions provide an ideal breeding ground. The presence of large numbers of germs inflames the mucous membranes lining the nose and throat, and causes these membranes to “ respond ” by flooding the breathing passages with mucus or phlegm. And you have “ caught a cold.” ! There has recently been evolved a new scientific treatment for colds.
