THE PRESBYTERY
MONTHLY MEETING APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES. At the monthly meeting of the Southland Presbytery yesterday morning Mr J. S. Baxter occupied the chair in the absence qf the Moderator (the Rev. G. P. Mitchell). Welcomes were extended to the Revs. J. Bissett, A. C. Wedderspoon and R. A. Chisholm. Correspondence was received from the Youth Committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand advising that the long service diploma for youth work was granted to the late Mr John Lennie and that of Mr George Earwaker had been held over until the next meeting. Committees were appointed for the following year as follows:— Life and Work and Missions Committee: The Revs. A. L. Miller (convener), T. G. Campbell, J. Cawley, A. Gardiner, W. Tanner, J. Chisholm, L. G. B. Whitehead, and their elders. Finance, Property and Home Mission: The Revs. W. J. Robertson (convener), W. Tanner, J. Chisholm, W. A. Howes, A. G. Mackintosh Carter, E. Gardiner, and Messrs J. S. Baxter, W. A. McCaw, Greig, A. E. Featherstone and E. Lion.
Theological: The Revs. C. J. Tocker (convener), A. McFarlane, A. G. Mackintosh Carter, A. Gardiner, T. A. Speer, and Messrs Baxter and McCaw. Ecclesiastical: The functions to be handed over to the clerk of the Presbytery. Public Questions: The Revs. A. G. Mackintosh Carter (convener), W. Tanner, P. Thomson, E. Gardiner. A. L. Miller, W. J. Robertson and their elders. Social: Messrs McCaw and Featherstone. Outlook Correspondent: The Rev. T. G. Campbell. Boundaries Commission: Messrs Baxter and W. A. McCaw (joint conveners), the Revs. W. Tanner, W. J. Robertson, A. Gardiner, L. Miller, Messrs Scott and Irwin. Auditor: Mr W. A. McCaw. Statistics: The Rev. L. G. B. Whitehead. The appointment of the youth committee was held over till the next meeting. A report was presented by Mr Robertson and Mr McCaw regarding the proposed erection of a new church at Woodend. The commission consisting of the Revs. E. Gardiner and W. J. Robertson and Mr McCaw was instructed to investigate and report to the next meeting. The Rev. C. J. Tocker made application for a presbyterial certificate for Mr J. Gardiner, a student in charge of the home mission station at Stewart Island, who has commenced studies with a view to entering the ministry. The application was granted. Mr Tocker also reported on the girls, Bible Class camp at Gore and the boys’ camp at Waikaka held during Easter.
