GORE COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Gore Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Saturday there were present: Messrs F. Trapski (president, in the chair), P. Keir, R. L. Byars, Henry Smith, Hugh Smith, P. S. Cullen, W. Y. Dickie, R. H. Dickie, W. G. Mac Kay, G. W. Whittingham, C. W. H. Tripp, J. L. Elder, R. K. Dodds, J. Logan, W. L. Scott, J. Drysdale, Hugh Smith, M. R. Lawlor, W. G. Ladbrook, D. Dickie, J. Bruce, T. A. Fleming, H. P. Mclntyre and J. E. White. A letter of thanks was received from the secretary of the Waikaia Dog Trials Club (Mr J. A. Christie) in appreciation of the association’s donation of £2 2/-. An application for the use of hurdles and for the customary donation was received from the Gore Sheep Dog Trials Club and granted. An application from the secretary of the Eastern Southland Rugby Football Sub-Union (Mr R. S. Green) for the use of the Showgrounds for the coming football season was granted subject to the usual conditions. The secretary of the Clydesdale Horse Society of Nev/ Zealand (Mr R McCay) asked the association to advise its members of the fact that no entries would be received by the society after April 30 unless from registered dams. It was stated that the society did not wish any breeders to miss the opportunity of qualifying their stock for registration. Tire secretary (Mr F. Young) reported that the gross receipts from the recent rodeo totalled £B5 11/-. The expenses totalled £55, leaving a credit balance of approximately £3O. Members expressed appreciation of the action of Mr W. L. Milne in allowing the use of steers for the rodeo and it was decided to allow Mr Milne a donation of £5 5/-. Messrs E. W. Stevens and Percy G. Ross were elected new members of the association. It was reported that the entries for the flock ram fair next Wednesday totalled 1613 compared with 1262 last vear. The entry was made up of 1195 Romney Marsh, 339 Southdown, 60 Border Leicester, 10 English Leicester and nine Corriedale. Arrangements had been made for the Romney Marsh and other breeds to be sold simultaneously. Mr Drysdale raised objection to simultaneous selling. He said that many farmers wished to buy both Romney Marsh and Southdown sheep. The stock agents also were not in favour of selling in two rings. He considered that an effort should be made to sell the Southdown sheep on the day of the stud sale. Mr Lawlor said that this would give a preference to the Southdown breed by about a month. Another speaker suggested that the stud and flock sales be held on successive days. If the same procedure were followed the Southdowns or some other breed could be sold on the day of the stud sale. It was decided to proceed with the sale as arranged. Mr Henry Smith referred to the great success achieved by the Eastern Dis,trict in the New Zealand Meat Board s South Island district fat lamb competition in securing second place. It was a matter for gratification, he said, that the lambs from the district had shown such a marked improvement.
