NORTHERN DISTRICT TENNIS. (From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the Northern District Tennis Sub-Association was held at Balfour on Tuesday evening. Delegates present were Messrs J. C. Paterson (president) and G. Martin (Wendonside), E. D. Sanson (Freshford), Bunting and Dawson (Waikaia), M. Stanton (Riversdale), Wilson and Rivers (secretary), Balfour, and Mesdames Biggar and McDonald (Lumsden). The West Otago Tennis Association wrote regarding a representative match and suggested March 24 as a suitable date. It was decided to accept that date for the match and play same at Waikaia. Wednesday, March 28, was suggested as a suitable date for a match with Eastern. « The annual doubles tourney will be held at Riversdale on April 7, entries to close on the sth. Messrs Stanton, Gee and Shallard were appointed handicappers. Mr Wilson will handicap the handicappers. ~ ~ , •, After a discussion of ladder rules, it was decided that Rule 2 be amended to read: Any player may challenge for any position once; if defeated, may challenge No. 6; if again defeated, may challenge only No. 10. The secretary was instructed to forward to Misses J. and R. Wilson letters of congratulation on their being selected for the Southland team, and on their good showing at Dunedin, and as Miss J. Wilson has left the district, to express the hope that she will continue her tennis. The following are the remaining fixtures in the second round:— March 3.—Freshford B v. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs James Alexander, sen., entertained aoout ,17 children at a party to celebrate the eighth birthday of Miss Alice Greer. Riversdale, who is staying with Mrs Alexander at present. A birthday cake made by Mrs Rowley and surmounted by eight candles, was duly cut by the guest of honour and handed round. Games were played, and a bran tub caused much excitement. Mrs Alexander was ably assisted by Misses Noreen Keown and Irene Rowley, who saw that the happy party had no dull moments.
