FIERCE GALE
BRITAIN SWEPT. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, February 1. A fierce northerly gale swept Britain to-day. It was especially violent in the Channel and North Sea, and two crossChannel sailings between Dover and Ostend were cancelled. The lifeboat at Fily, Yorkshire, rescued in heavy seas the crew of the motor vessel Carchclyde. At Deal great waves pounded the foreshore and swept bver the promenades and roads.
