MANY KILLED IN CRUSH. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.40 p.m.) Kobe, January 9. Ten thousand gathered at Kyoto station last night to bid farewell to naval recruits. A spectator fell down the wide stairs leading downwards to the platform and others fell over him. The crowd, many of whom were intoxicated, continued to press and 76 were killed and many injured. A few of the recruits were among the killed. Some leapt out of the train on seeing the human avalanche, but the train steamed out punctually. DEAD NUMBER 82. (United Press Assn. —Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 12.5 a.m.) Tokio, January 9. It is officially estimated that 82 were killed at Kyoto station, including seven recruits. Sixty-four were severely injured, including four recruits. The Emperor and Empress have sent solatium to the families of the victims.
