TRAMPER INJURED
ACCIDENT IN CLEDDAU VALLEY.
BROUGHT FROM MILFORD BY MONOWAI.
When the Monowai called at Milford Sound an injured tramper was placed on board for speedy removal to hospital, after being several days at the hostel.
He was David Pickford, son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Pickford, Fulton Street, Invercargill, who is a school teacher at Timaru. He was injured when he fell over a cliff when climbing in the Cleddau Valley during the Christmas holidays, and he was carried to the hostel by a party of members of the Hutt Tramping Club, who made a special trip for the purpose. The Monowai, which arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday, was the first vessel to call at Milford since the accident, and Pickford was placed aboard. An ambulance was sent to Port Chalmers yesterday, and Pickford was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 12.15 p.m. He is suffering from injuries to his back, but his condition is not serious.
