NO PLAY
TENNIS TOURNAMENT
RAIN CAUSES POST- . PONEMENT
FINALITY DOUBTFUL
(Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, January 6.
Rain fell persistently all day Saturday, and play in the semi-fmals of the New Zealand Tennis Championships had to be postponed till Monday momlllOwing to the repeated interruptions by bad weather, there is some doubt when the championships will be completed. The Australian players have to be in Wellington on Tuesday to iulti! a playing engagement there, and all of them, with the exception of Miss Dingle, are still in the final or semifinal events. If play is not completed by Monday night, they will have to default. The only alternative to that would be to play subsequent matches out of Christchurch. However, more will be known on this point after Monday. Mr Murray Kean, secretary of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, says, that if the players are agreeable they can play unfinished matches <-ny~ where they like. Mr Kean stated that if an Australian and New Zealander entered the final of the men’s singles it would be difficult, but if two Australians were in the men’s final, as they were in the ladies’ final, they could play the match anywhere on tour. The combined doubles quarter final resulted: C. E. Malfroy and Miss M. Macfarlane beat Rhodes Williams and Miss M. Wake 6—3, 9 —ll, 6 4. EXHIBITION MATCH. PERRY BEATS HOPMAN.
