BUTTER MARKET

STABILIZING PRICES

AUSTRALIAN REPRESEN-

TATIONS

POSITION OUTLINED

(Per United Press Association.)

Auckland, January 5.

Information regarding the stabilization of the butter market which has been urged by Australian interests was sought this week by an Auckland, firm of agents from its London principals. The reply which was received to-day stated that New Zealand and Australian importers had advised the Australian Board that production had already considerably discounted the. 20 per cent, postponement of shipments. The message added that it was considered the market was now healthy and prices were now stabilized, but any fixation of price would not be recommended. Australian interests prior to Christmas cabled the principal London distributors of Australian and New Zealand butter, expressing disappointment that there had been a further decline in the market, in spite of the fact that Australia and New Zealand were withholding 20 per cent, of their shipments and suggesting action should be taken to stabilize the market at 75/- per cwt.
