(United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, January 5. A violent storm, accompanied by torrential rain and severe hail, occurred in the northern coastal tablelands districts. A cyclone at Inverell unroofed houses and outbuildings. Storm-water channels overflowed and business places were flooded. Farmers’ crops were flattened. , — . ~ Creeks and rivers in the Kyogle district overflowed their banks, while extensive damage was caused to roads and bridges. Telephone and telegraph wires were also blown down. A message from Brisbane states t.iat storms of hurricane violence swept Toowoomba and razed fences and sheds. In the city business places were flooded and many houses unroofed, while the towns of Wyreema and Pittsworth were plunged into darkness when flying roofing iron cut the electric cables. The main roads are impassable. The Yarrambah Mission launch, Clam (40 tons), was caught by a cyclonic blow when rounding Cape Grafton near Cairns and was wrecked on a sandbank. The crew of eight natives swam through shark-infested waters to the shore. . , , A baby was born m an ambulance car which had stalled in a flooded creek crossing at Upper Tallebudgera. The mother and infant are both doing well.
