LIFE AND COLOUR OF NEW ZEALAND. A bright beginning of the New Year is made by the “N.Z. The brilliant Ken .Alexander gives another feast of prose, verse and sketches concerned comically with New Year resolutions. James Cowan, one of New Zealand’s best authorities on the Dominion’s history, describes very interestingly the career of James Edward Fitzgerald, pioneer, statesman, writer and orator. Will Lawson presents another o>‘ his breezy railway stories. C. A. L. Treadwell continues his chronicles of crime with “The Trial of Simon Cedeno.” Leo Fanning discourses on “The Dear Old Jokes.” “Tohunga” (a high authority on Maori subjects) gives another instalment of “The Wisdom of the Maori.” The women’s section gives plenty of helpful information for the holiday season, in and out of doors.
