CROWDS OF MERRY-MAKERS.

BRIGHT SUNSHINE.

(Special to the Times). Queenstown, December 26. Queenstown is crowded with holidaymakers, who are arriving with every boat from Kingston and overland from Central Otago. The weather seems settled now,' and the bright sunshine all day to-day attracted hundreds of people to the bowling green, where tl.e tournament was continued. Play was keen, and by ter.-time four rinks had won four games each, so that it was necessary to play off in the evening The bowling green is as yet the most popular attraction in Queenstown and presents a delightfu 1 holiday’ picture, the many-coloured blazers, representing clubs from all over the Dominion, harmonizing with the glorious array of roses and ' the fresh green of the

lawns. The carnival proceedings started with a children’s fancy dress parade. this evening, and this was followed by a procession of decorated motor cars from the Post Office. At 8.45 p.m. the Mayor, Mr W. H. Overton, officially declared the carnival open, from the balcony of the White Star Hotel, after which there was a torchlight procession to the park. The feature of the evening was a magnificent fireworks display in the park which was Witnessed by hundreds of spectators. “Joy Alley” also attracted many people, and the whole evening was marked by. an air of gaiety thoroughly compatible with the Christmas season.

A dance this evening concluded the day’s proceedings.
