MR EUGENE CORRI. FAMOUS BOXING REFEREE. (United Press Assn. —Telegraph Copyright.) London, December 22. The death is announced of Mr Eugene Corri, the boxing referee. Gene Corri. as he was familiarly known, was one of the world s greatest authorities, and had been assoaated (he game for something like fifty years. 1 was England's leading referee, and officiated at most of the important matches held at the old National Sporting Club in Convent Garden. He was acclaimed as one of the best judges of a boxers merit, and was particularly facile in assessing the future? possibilities of many P ro ™ sine boxer, his judgment rarely being astray. One of his proteges was Jimmy Itilde, the flyweight champion of the world, and one o? the cleverest boxers England lias ever seen. He was the author of Fifty Years m the Ring” and other boxing publications. s4e years ago he was stated to be m poor circumstances owing to troubie with his ■ eye, and that famous patron of British sport. Lord Lonsdale, interested himself in alleviating his condition.
