WINE FOR PRODUCE
EXCHANGE WITH AMERICA.
INCREASED QUOTAS SOUGHT.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.)
Washington, December 19.
Eight countries, including Australia, to-day sought to take advantage of the stalemate between the United States and France in their attempts to trade wine for farm produce. France, after agreeing to increase her imports for a large allotment of wine shipments, intended to raise the tariff on United States fruits. Great Britain is seeking an increased Scotch whisky quota and is offering a larger quota on United States pork products. The British Ambassador has also made representation on behalf of Australian and South African wines and Jamaica rum.
Spain, Portugal, Greece, Russia, Chile, and the Argentine are actively negotiating for large increases in the wine quotas.
