The Tamatea sailed for Stewart Island at 10.30 a.m. yesterday and returned again at 5.45 p.m. The Shaw, Savill steamer Mahia arrived from Brisbane last evening. To-day she begins hex Dominion loading and on completion. at Bluff about the 27th or 28th. sails for Wellington, Auckland and Napier. The Shaw. Savill and Albion Company’s Fordsdale is expected to arrive at Bluff from London direct about January 8, to load dairy produce and general cargo. Messrs Henderson and Co. Ltd., locals agents for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line Ltd., advise that the Port Hunter is due at Bluff about January 31 to discharge general cargo from London. Upon

completion of discharge, the vessel will then load Homewards on the coast for London. Messrs Henderson and Company, local agents for the C. and D. Llnne, advise that the Port Sydney is expected to arrive at Bluff from Australia on January 15, to load frozen meat, dairy produce and general cargo for London and usual U.K. and continental destinations. The Port Napier is expected to arrive at Bluff from U.K. (in ballast) on January 28, and will load frozen meat, general cargo etc. for London and usual United Kingdom and continental destinations.

The Oceanic Company’s liner Mariposa on her last trip from Auckland to Sydney clipped an hour off the Monterey's record, making the Tasman crossing in 61 hours 14 minutes at an average speed of 20.17 knots. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Hunter left London on December 15 for Auckland, Wellington, and Bluff. She is due at Auckland on January 21. The Ashburton, en route from New York to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia, cleared Port Arthur on December 13 in continuation of her voyage.

The Nogoya, formerly the Highland Warrior, left London last Friday morning in ballast to load at New Zealand ports for the Shaw, Savill Company. She is coming via the Cape of Good Hope and Sydney, and is due in these waters about February 3 to commence loading. The Oceanic Company’s liner Monterey left San Francisco on December 12 and Los Angeles on the following riay for Honolulu. Pago Pago, Suva, Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne. She is due at Auckland on December 29.

The Marine Department advises that the rear lighted leading beacon in the Otago Harbour entrance is being removed to a position 165>,2 degrees 2150 feet (approximately) from the front lighted leading beacon. On and after next Wednesday the entrance beacons in line 165>/ 2 degrees will lead through the centre of the deep water channel.

A wireless message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the captain of the Rotorua, en route from Wellington to London, states that the weather conditions have been favourable, and that all on board are well. The Rotorua left Wellington last Friday morning. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion motor ship Zealandic cleared Panama on December 8 in continuation of her voyage from London to Suva, Dunedin. Lyttelton, Napier, and Nelson. She is due at Dunedin about January 4. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain G. W. Evans has replaced Captain C. Snarpe as master of the Opihi. Mr E. R. Pate has been engaged as extra officer on the Waimarino. Mr W. Robertson has relieved Mr R. J. Boyd as surgeon on the Royal Mail Steamer Monowai. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
