NEGRO ASSAILANT KILLED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) New York, December 19. A message from Plaquemine (Louisiana) states that six members of a Government engineering party were shot and wounded, some seriously, from ambush yesterday. A negro assailant, formerly an inmate of an insane asylum, was subsequently killed after resisting arrest. The negro crouched in a swamp and opened fire on the surveyors as they were passing in a boat along the river.
